The fire circle has, throughout human history, been equated with safety, warmth, and community. The community fire kept predators at bay during the long dark night. Fire is hypnotic, and watching the constantly changing shapes and images, the group would join in storytelling, song, ritual, and meals.
Even the individual hearth fire encourages all to gather round and spend time together. But the community fire circle can be a place for personal transformation and ceremony, a place to manifest dreams and intention, as we meditate, drum, dance, sing, chant, recite, or quietly gaze within our own thoughts.
